Mozilla Prism breif review / Breve review do Mozilla Prism

I talked about this before, and today after some use, I came to give my opinion. Installing is quite simple. Just download, untar and run the Prism executable in the folder to where you "untared". Next a window will appear where you will be asked the URL of the web application, the name, 3 other options and another if you would like to create a desktop shortcut, which I advise you do because its the easiest way to have the application available. Simple as that. After that, it's just a click in the desktop shortcut and you will have a window with your web application on it. You can use it as any other window (minimize it , change desktop, etc.) . I found it useful for accessing some of the web applications we now came to use frequently. And by the fact that it's independent window let's you make use of Alt+Tab, Exposé, etc. One thing I found is that I can't use the dictionary like I use in Firefox inside prism, being based on the same engine I though I could do it. I wouldn't say it's revolutionary but it's a good innovation. P.S.: Another way of testing Prism, and by the way much more well integrated is by installing a Alpha version of Ubuntu Hardy Heron (in a virtual machine, because Hardy Heron is, as I wrote ALPHA) and install the prism deb's that give a much smoother integration by putting a menu entry of the applications.

Já tinha falado sobre isto, e hoje após alguma utilização, venho dar a minha opinião. A instalação é muito simples. Faça o download, descompacte e corra o executável Prism na directoria para onde descompactou. A seguir vai aparecer uma janela onde será pedido o URL da aplicação web, o nome, 3 outras opções e se quer criar um atalho no desktop, o que eu aconselho por tornar o acesso mais fácil à aplicação. É tão simples quanto isto. Depois para correr a aplicação é só clicar no atalho e terá uma janela no seu desktop com a aplicação. Pode usá-la como outra qualquer janela (minimizá-la, mudar de desktop, etc.). Eu achei útil para aceder algumas das aplicações web que passaram a ser do uso comum nos nossos dias. E pelo facto de ser uma janela independente, como uma qualquer aplicação, pode sempre fazer uso do Alt+Tab, Exposé, etc. Houve uma coisa que não consegui fazer como faço no Firefox que é usar o dicionário do Firefox. Uma coisa que eu descobri é que não posso usar o dicionário como uso dentro do Firefox, e como é baseado no mesmo core pensei que fosse possivél. Eu não direi que é um software revolucionário mas é uma boa inovação. P.S.: Outra maneira de testar o Prism, e já agora muito melhor integrada, é instalando uma versão Alpha do Ubuntu Hardy Heron (numa máquina virtual de preferência pois o Hardy Heron é, como escrevi ALPHA) que já tem no seus repositórios pacotes que instalam algumas das aplicações web mais usadas e integram melhor com o SO visto que criam logo entradas nos menus.

To the people who want to give Ubuntu a try on the Asus Eee PC, there is a "prepared to recognized all the hardware" XUbuntu image available. I already talked about this here. But if you would like to go for a Ubuntu 7.10 installation them I recommend this how-to. It's clean, and straight to the point. It will not only install Ubuntu on the Asus Eee PC, but also do a optimization on several key aspects of the little laptop. Very good job.

Para quem queira dar uma oportunidade ao Ubuntu no Asus Eee PC, existe uma versão XUbuntu "preparada para reconhecer todo o hardware" disponível. Eu já falei sobre isso aqui. Mas se quiserem experimentar o Ubuntu 7.10 então eu recomendo este how-to. É simples, e limpo, directo ao objectivo. Não só irá instalar o Ubuntu no Asus Eee PC, mas também optimizar o SO em vários aspectos fulcrais do pequeno laptop. Um excelente trabalho.
