Eu nunca usei Javascript. Pronto já disse, e vindo de um administrador de sistemas/programador isso é uma vergonha? Será mesmo? Eu acho que não, e como tenho alguns amigos que usam Javascript com muita frequência eles disseram-me que este é realmente bom! "Fen?!? what?" You say. :) Fennec it's the name to the new mobile version of Mozilla's Web Browser. It seam's it's really a major improvement over existing browser's especially in terms of speed. Also being based on Gecko engine you can have existing extensions migrating with minimun or no code change. And also bookmark's, preferences from your desktop Firefox. Great stuff isn't it? I think it is. ArsTechnica has an interview with the person responsible for the development and a small preview.

First there's Dell moving to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS in their Linux lineup, them AMD launches a Linux thermal driver for their Phenom CPU's, and last but no the least, since they are two companies that fully embraced Open Source now we have Dell offerring their Linux PC's with ATI graphic card's. There's always a lot of talk on which browser is the best. Well, my opinion is that there is no "the best browser". Some have really good extras, other have speed, and others take less resources, etc. To me the best is the one which meets the requirements I define as the important one's to the diferent situations. But, yes there's always a but :) , one important issue today is, no doubt, memory consumption and not the stated on paper, the real one in real use. So here it is a study between Firefox 3, Safari 3.1, IE8 Beta1. Flock 1.2, Opera 9.5. Enjoy!

Well, right after the announcement, yesterday, from MSI of the price for their Wind low cost ultraportable in the US (I wish that 399$ version, which at current exchange rates means 258 Euros will also come to Europe and at similar price), Asus didn't want to lose momentum and let slip some photos of the EeePC 901 or more exactly the Intel Atom version of the EeePC 900 that you can buy today. Bom, logo depois de a MSI ter divulgado, ontem, o preço do seu Wind ultraportátil de baixo custo para os EUA (quem me dera que aquela versão de 399$, que a taxas de câmbio correntes significam 258 Euros também esteja disponível aqui na Europa a preço idêntico), a Asus não quis perder momentum e deixou escapar uma fotos do seu EeePC 901 ou mais exactamente a versão com o intel Atom do actual EeePC 900 que se pode comprar hoje. So in Germany, the Wind will cost about €459,95 which is simply awesome for a 1,6Ghz (Intel Atom), 1Gb Ram, 10 inch 1026x600 LED backlight!, 80Gb HDD disk space 1.3Mpixel Webcam, Wireless, Bluetooth and Windows XP ultraportable. And even a protective bag. With our beloved Linux it will set you back only €424,95!!! Which make the prices of the HP 2133 look like an abuse! For now I think the crown will go to the MSI Wind in the low cost ultraportable arena. Make them available! Please! :) Almost forgot, it will be available in Black, White and Pink!

OpenOffice 3.0 Beta

It's out and you can download it from here. It seems very good, with lot's of new features which you can see and read about it here. I think some features do have in account are: ODF 1.2 support, Microsoft Office 2007 Import Filters, charting
enhancements, improved note capabilities in Writer, new icons, and a
start center. Also Mac OS X users will have some enhancements, like not needing the X11 to run it. It is expected to be released in 2 of September.

Já saiu e podem fazer download a partir daqui. Parece estar a ficar muito bom, com imensas novas funcionalidades que podem ver e ler sobre elas aqui. Eu penso que algumas a destacar são: suporte ao ODF 1.2, filtros de importação de documentos MS Office 2007, melhores gráficos, possibilidade de fazer comentários/notas no Writer, novos icons e um inicio centralizado. Também os fãs do Mac OS X terão melhorias como por exemplo não necessitar do X11 para correr o programa. É esperado o seu lançamento definitivo a 2 de Setembro.
