Openmoko Freerunner

The commercial name for the OpenMoko FIC Neo1973 will be Freerunner. And Fic was in CES to show their latest development and ... Engadget was there and reported it. Also with pictures. This is a project I follow closely. Hope they can get it right the first time because there will be fewer space left if they don't. Mobile area is very competitive and with Android in the playground...

Este é um projecto que tenho acompanhado muito de perto. Eu espero que eles consigam sair bem logo à primeira porque senão pouco espaço lhes restará. A área dos telefones/dispositivos moveis é muito competitiva e com o Android na jogada...

Asus Eee PC new version? / Nova versão do Asus Eee PC?

Rumors, rumors, CES makes it so. Word is that Asus will show a version of the Eee PC with WiMAX that is supposed to be much faster than the existing wireless b/g/n of today. With Intel, baking the WiMAX very strongly, and Sprint there's the chance they will show how much further ahead of competition they are in this field. Let's wait and see.

Rumores, rumores, o CES assim obriga, consta que a Asus vai mostrar uma versão do seu Eee PC com WiMAX que é suposto ser muito mais rápido que o wireless b/g/n de hoje. Com a Intel por trás, o WiMAX tem sido desenvolvido maioritariamente por esta e pela Sprint, espera-se que estes dois players mostrarão como já vão bem à frente da competição neste campo. A ver vamos.

Google Android Video Demo

Well, Google has provided, as promised, their SDK for Android, the so much talked "GPhone". And for what I've been seeing it's quite an SDK! I'm a big OpenMoko fan. Been there since the beginning always following the news and development but the smart phone panorama has changed during OpenMoko development. And Android is a big change. Not only seems to be very strong in features and integration it's, to figure here on the blog, Open Source! I'm very excited in seeing how companies/individuals will explore this much potential that the Android has and to see how OpenMoko can/will capitalize on the Android. Bom, o Google disponibilizou, como prometido, o SDK para o Android, o tão falado "GPhone". E pelo que tenho visto é um belo SDK!. Eu sou um grande fã do OpenMoko. Tenho acompanhado desde o inicio o projecto, segui sempre as notícias e os desenvolvimentos mas o panorama dos smart phones mudou muito durante o desenvolvimento do OpenMoko. E o Android é uma grande mudança. Não só parece ser muito forte em termos de funcionalidades e integração, é, para aparecer aqui no blog, Open Source! Eu estou muito curioso em ver como vão as empresas/indivíduos explorar o potencial do Android e de ver como o OpenMoko pode/vai capitalizar nas possibilidades do Android. Vão até aqui para ver um vídeo de demonstração do Android.

These are the names to retain and to look for in the upcoming months. Android is the name of a startup firm that Google has aquired in 2005. It has been in the core development of the "GPhone", which in fact is, has we got to know after the yesterday announcement, a software stack highly integrated with Google services. It's completely Open Source. Open Handset Alliance (OHA for friends) it's no more than a set of, for now, 34 members that include names that are top players in their areas of business. From mobile chips we have Broadcom, Intel, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. In hardware HTC, LG, Motorola e a Samsung. Operators like T-Mobile, Sprint, China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo e KDDI, Telecom Italia e Telefónica. And many others in other areas. Google doesn't want, or at least isn't showing, a will to commercialize a branded hardware phone. According to Andy Rubin, “We are not building a GPhone; we are enabling 1,000 people to build a GPhone.”. Theres also talk about a phone Google's been showing Android. It's an HTC code name "Dream". HTC is thinking in launching "Dream" commercially in 2008. It's known that "Dream" has 3 x 5 inches, touchscreen, navigational controls in the base and a swivel keyboard.

Tem estado na génese do "GPhone", que não é mais, ficámos a saber depois do anúncio de ontem, do que uma plataforma aberta, uma stack de software, com altíssima integração com os serviços do Google. É totalmente Open Source. Open Handset Alliance (OHA para os amigos) não é mais do que um conjunto de, por agora, 34 membros que incluem nomes que são, simplesmente, lideres nas suas áreas de actuação de negócio. Área de chips móveis tem a Broadcom, Intel, Qualcomm e Texas Instruments. Área de fabricantes de hardware a HTC, LG, Motorola e a Samsung. Área de operadores T-Mobile, Sprint, China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo e KDDI, Telecom Italia e Telefónica. E muitos outros noutras áreas. O Google não quer, ou pelo menos não demonstra querer, comercializar hardware com o seu logótipo. Segundo Andy Rubin “Não estamos a construir um GPhone; estamos a permitir a milhares de pessoas construir um GPhone.". Também se fala de que o Google tem mostrado o Android num hardware HTC com nome de código "Dream". Fala-se da HTC lançar o "Dream" comercialmente em 2008. Sabe-se que o "Dream" tem 3 x 5 polegadas, touchscreen, controles navegação na base e a um teclado.
