Openmoko Freerunner

The commercial name for the OpenMoko FIC Neo1973 will be Freerunner. And Fic was in CES to show their latest development and ... Engadget was there and reported it. Also with pictures. This is a project I follow closely. Hope they can get it right the first time because there will be fewer space left if they don't. Mobile area is very competitive and with Android in the playground...

O nome comercial do Openmoko FIC Neo1973vai ser Freerunner. E a FIC esteve no CEs a apresentar o seu desenvolvimento mais recente e ... o Engadget estava lá e reportou sobre isso. Com fotos. Este é um projecto que tenho acompanhado muito de perto. Eu espero que eles consigam sair bem logo à primeira porque senão pouco espaço lhes restará. A área dos telefones/dispositivos moveis é muito competitiva e com o Android na jogada...

Asus Eee PC with more screen size choice / Asus Eee PC com mais escolha de tamanho de ecrã

Asus revealed in the CES 2008 that the Eee PC laptop will have more choice of displays. There will be a 8'' and a 8,9'' complementing the 7''. They also claim that it will be worldwide available at launch. I can only hope two things, the price won't go up very much and that the availability is real since here in Portugal we don't have the 7'' yet so... well see. Almost forgot, they also shown a WiMAX enabled Eee PC. Don't know if it will be available in all the new model's.

Asus mostrou no CES 2008 que o portátil Eee PC vai ter mais escolha ao nível do tamanho do ecrã. Vai haver versões de 8'' e 8,9'' a complementar a já existente 7''. Eles também afirmam que a disponibilidade será mundial logo no lançamento. Eu, por mim, só espero duas coisas, que o preço se mantenha baixo e que a disponibilidade seja mesmo mundial porque nós por cá ainda continuamos à espera da versão de 7''... veremos. Quase esquecia que eles também demonstraram um portátil com WiMAX. Não especificaram se seria em todas as novas versões.

Acabei de saber que o Openmoko, a plataforma aberta, corre no Dash Express, o primeiro aparelho GPS ligado à Net para o mercado consumidor. Usa o hardware do Neo e a plataforma de software. O poder do Open Source está bem espelhado nesta situação. Mais detalhes aqui.

Scribus: Professional DTP

Many people, when making the switch to Linux, or at least consider it, say "if only I had Adobe InDesign and QuarkXpress...". Nothing more wrong! If there is a field where Linux doesn't lag behind, the DTP arena is that field. I'm talking about Scribus of course!

Muitas pessoas quando estão a fazer a troca para Linux ou equacionam a troca para Linux dizem "se ao menos houvesse o Adobe InDesign e/ou o QuarkXpress...". Nada mais errado! Se há categoria onde o Linux não se fica atrás é precisamente nessa área, o DTP. E estou a falar do Scribus, claro!

Asus Eee PC new version? / Nova versão do Asus Eee PC?

Rumors, rumors, CES makes it so. Word is that Asus will show a version of the Eee PC with WiMAX that is supposed to be much faster than the existing wireless b/g/n of today. With Intel, baking the WiMAX very strongly, and Sprint there's the chance they will show how much further ahead of competition they are in this field. Let's wait and see.

Rumores, rumores, o CES assim obriga, consta que a Asus vai mostrar uma versão do seu Eee PC com WiMAX que é suposto ser muito mais rápido que o wireless b/g/n de hoje. Com a Intel por trás, o WiMAX tem sido desenvolvido maioritariamente por esta e pela Sprint, espera-se que estes dois players mostrarão como já vão bem à frente da competição neste campo. A ver vamos.

Noahpad UMPC

Well, CES 2008 is coming and new products and rumors are surging everywhere. There is this company, E-Lead Electronic from Taiwan, which is poised to make a inroad of the Asus Eee PC market. With it's Noahpad UMPC which has a 1GHz VIA C7 Eden processor (CX700 chipset), 1.8'' 30GB hard drive, and 512MB of RAM, 7-inch display is LED backlit and lifts up to reveal a QWERTY, virtual?, keyboard. The keyboard is where it resides the inovation. Given they didn't specify anything we are eagerly waiting for their CES announcement. Let's wait and see. For sure, the Asus Eee PC was a market changer product, has he said it would be.

Bom, o CES 2008 está a chegar e novos produtos e rumores aparecem um pouco por todo o lado. Existe uma empresa, E-Lead Electronic de Taiwan, que já deu um "cheirinho" do que vai mostrar no CES. Com o seu Noahpad UMPC que tem como especificações um processador VIA C7 Eden de 1GHz (CX700 chipset), disco de 1.8'' 30GB, 512MB de RAM, monitor de 7'' LED backlit e um teclado QWERTY, virtual? É aqui no teclado que reside a inovação. Mas dado que eles não especificaram mais nada vamos esperar, com expectativa, para ver. Uma coisa é certa, o Asus Eee PC foi um produto que mudou/criou um mercado, como já tinhamos dito que seria.
